Accountability
Accountability
I don’t particularly like exercising, but I know it is crucial for my health and well-being. To many a people’s surprise, I am not a morning person (considering my job) so early exercising is not an option for me. I envy the morning gym bunnies as they get that amazing boost to start their day. If early starts do not bother you, then this is your key time to exercise!
So after running around on my feet all day, the last thing I feel like doing is a work-out. Once I am there it’s all good, but as most of you will be able to sympathise with me, getting there is a different story. Always plenty of excuses from working late, being fatigued, too hot or too cold, or even housework.
After being in and out gyms for the last 15 years, the best motivation for me is being accountable to someone else. Whether it is a group fitness class, a sports club or even a friend. Group fitness and sports clubs will have set times that training starts, so work this into your daily schedule. Schedule it into your phone so every day you are reminded. Set goals on what you want to achieve. Personally I gave up exercising for weight loss and have now focused on fitness and strength. Strong is the new sexy!
There are so many group fitness class options to suit everyone. My mum does aqua aerobics and absolutely loves it. I know she enjoys the social side of it as well. Circuit classes are so popular, that every week there is growth. These types of classes are fantastic, because it doesn’t matter what size, shape, age or ability you are, you will only be pushed to your limit. Masterton’s community offer so many options you just need to pick one that works for you. Be brave or just take a friend, and remember that everyone is there for one reason and one common goal – GOOD HEALTH
On a side note, crossfit has been a physios dream due to lack of experienced trainers. Lifting weights is a big part of crossfit and technique is more important than the amount of kilos on the bar. Your trainers need to actively on the floor watching and correcting technique. Injuries suck and will only hinder your fitness goals. If you are ever unsure of a particular technique always ask and just remember learning anything new is always a challenge in itself. I am blessed with excellent trainers whose goal and focus is me. Sometimes I get yelled at but I know it is because they are only concerned about my health and well-being. I am thankful being part of this great community
